脱ぐ、本気、撮る！！

2011年12月23日、陸上アスリートの中西麻耶選手から越智貴雄宛に1通のメールが届いた。

中西選手「私的にほぼスッポンポンで越智さんにかっこ良く撮ってもらいたい！」

僕は、すかさずメールを返した。「ヌード写真撮って、それをどうしますか？」

中西選手「脱ぎたいんです（笑）」

とにかく僕は、彼女の本心が知りたくて、何度も中西選手とメールと電話でやりとりを繰り返した。彼女から「陸上アスリートとしてやっていくことに対して本気を見せたい。本気を見せるのに、着飾るものは何もいらない」と言われ時、僕はハッとした。ドキッとした。本気を撮るってどういうことだろうかと。今までも本気で撮ってきた。でも中西選手から「本気を見せたい」といわれ、僕はどう撮るか考えた。

一昨年、彼女が資金難で苦しみ、国際大会への出場すらままならなかった経緯を知っていたこともあり、それを一つのテーマにできないかと考えた。そして、彼女の人並みはずれた突破力と力強いエネルギーを写真で表現したいと思った。

彼女の本気に僕も「真正面」から向き合う。そして、彼女の思いを聞けば聞くほど、ヌードとかいうのはどうでもよく、ただ、彼女の心からの強い気持ちを何がなんでも写真でとらえたくなった。

・撮影という「闘いの場」

撮影は、2月上旬、都内のスタジオで行なった。メイク担当は、資生堂さんの全面協力でヘア＆メーキャップアーティストの篠塚さんが担当。篠塚さんは、ツバキCMのメイクを担当であり、NY、パリコレクションなど第一線で活躍されている方だけに迫力満点だった。何よりもモデルとして中西選手のことを考え、この世で誰よりもきれいに、しかも力強く見えるようにする手腕は、言葉では言い尽くせない。お仕事をご一緒できたこと、誇りに思う。

撮影コンセプトは、力強い、元気でいつも前向きな中西選手を表現すること。しかし、資金難など、競技生活での苦しい局面も表現する必要があると感じたので、そういう場面の撮影ではじょうろから大量の水を何度も何度も中西さんにぶっかけた。室内とはいえ、2月の寒い時期、さぞ彼女も辛かったと思う。しかし、中西選手の集中力は最後まで途切れなかった。彼女の鍛え上げられた肉体美が、どんな撮影にも瞬時に対応してくれたので、僕も夢中でシャッターを押した。そして、中西さんと僕が表現したかった写真が完成した。中西麻耶が一人のアスリートとして、真摯に陸上に向き合ってきた結晶が誕生したのだ。

この「結晶」を僕は多くの人に見ていただきたいと思っています。そして大勢の人に中西麻耶という陸上選手を理解していただき、応援をしていただけたらと考え、この大胆な肉体美を掲載した「中西麻耶セミヌードカレンダー」を作成しました。売上金の一部は彼女の選手活動資金にあてます。

カレンダーのサイズは見開きA３サイズ。上半分に写真が１～２カット（計１０カット）、下半分には「３月」始まりの２か月分ずつ暦が入っています。「３月から来年４月」までのカレンダーという少々変わったカレンダーではありますが、「中西麻耶応援グッズ」として楽しんでいただければ幸いです。
